What this jersey means to me: Mark Cavendish Team Sky World Champion Jersey

Q: What jersey would I save if my house was on fire?

A: This one.

Q: My ‘desert island’ race?

A: The 2011 Road World Championships. I could sit on the turbo and watch this race all day, pretending to work for Cav.

Q: Why?

A: A ‘team of stars’ ✋rode like ‘a star team’ ✊. Captain David Millar, G, Stannard, Sir Brad, Froomie, Cummings, Hunt and ‘the Manx Missile’ - who sealed the deal.

Great Britain executed ‘project rainbow’ to perfection. Cav became Britain’s second Mens Road Race World Champion, the first being Tom Simpson in 1965.

The team all rode out of their skins today. It’s a shame they can’t wear the world champion’s jersey as well. I’ve won the jersey, but I just put the finishing touches to the mission.

In 2012 Cav joined Team Sky. The shot of Sir Brad leading him out on the Champs-Élysées, during the 2012 Tour de France is one of the most iconic images in cycling history.
